The welfare of UAE’s delivery riders is making the news once again with positive initiatives applauded by Clutch & Co.

As reported by the Khaleej Times in March 2023, delivery companies in the UAE have been supporting fasting riders during Ramadan.

While Careem decided to pause orders for 30 minutes during Iftar to allow their riders to take a break, Deliveroo riders can opt to log out while they break to eat, and Talabat offers riders flexible working schedules and discounts at restaurants.

Delivery companies are also asking customers to consider their riders and order early to prevent huge peaks in demand.

In addition to special consideration of riders’ welfare being made during Ramadan, The National News reported in March that UAE businesses have been asked to submit bids to build designated rest areas for riders in Dubai.

The paper writes, “The stations will be on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Festival Plaza at Jebel Ali Village, at Port Saeed next to Al Muraqabat Street 22, and at Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 2 near Al Manama Street. The aim is to provide basic services for riders such as maintenance, refuelling, rest areas and restaurants.”
